BioMed Nexus Daily Updates

Your essential biotech, medtech, and pharma recap — no noise, just what matters.

📌TL;DR

  • Boston Scientific disclosed a cyberattack, identified August 25, that has disrupted order processing and shipping globally; the company says the timeline for full restoration is not yet known.

  • Tezspire met both co primary endpoints and all key secondary endpoints in CROSSING, a 368 patient Phase 3 in eosinophilic esophagitis; Amgen and AstraZeneca disclosed no effect sizes or p values.

  • Bloomberg reports the White House plans to announce pricing agreements with midsize biotechs as soon as Monday: Medicaid prices aligned with eight countries, exemption from Medicare pilot discounts, and possible tariff relief.

  • The FDA's own Rasonque approval notice confirms median overall survival of 13.2 versus 6.7 months, a 0.40 hazard ratio, and an approval roughly 6.5 months ahead of the agency's goal date; Fierce Pharma reports a $39,800 monthly list price.

  • Generate Biomedicines' Phase 1 posters for GB-0895, its AI designed anti TSLP antibody, leaked via the ERS website two weeks before their embargo; the company disclosed the leak in an SEC filing.

  • Amylyx has still not announced the closing of its $500.2 million offering, six days past the expected date, and Capricor rose a fourth straight session with no news.

Executive Takeaway

On Monday we promised to count, so here is the count. Four dated items sat open on the week's calendar: the Amylyx close, the Capricor decision, the Overton hearing, and the FDA's answer to Congress on Chinese trial data. Zero produced decisions. One produced another date, and Capricor's November 22 is a forecast wearing the costume of a resolution. The two things that performed this week did so for a reason the calendar does not show. Arbutus opened its tender on schedule because exchange mechanics run on rules, not discretion. Rasonque arrived 6.5 months early because the voucher pathway pays the agency credit for speed.

That is the whole lesson of the empty date week: a date performs when its controller gains from performing, and not otherwise. Every dated review left in the fourth quarter is a queue review where nobody collects credit for punctuality, so underwrite them as probability distributions, not appointments. The through line closes here. Monday opens the next one. 👉 Read Full Analysis

🩺 Medtech

An information failure is now a supply failure. BSX

Boston Scientific identified a cyberattack on August 25 and disclosed it August 26, saying the incident has disrupted the IT systems and business applications behind order processing and shipping, globally, with no timeline for full restoration and materiality still undetermined. Stifel told clients the incident creates "increased uncertainty" around 2026 revenue, margin, and earnings. The market has a template for this: Stryker's March 2026 cyberattack disrupted ordering and shipping for weeks and materially hit its first quarter, per MedTech Dive. BSX closed at $49.86 on Tuesday, $48.17 on Wednesday, and $46.67 on Thursday, per market data. A device maker's commercial engine runs through its order management systems as much as its plants, and this is the second large cap device maker knocked offline in six months. For hospitals, dual sourcing critical devices just moved from procurement preference to risk requirement.

🫁 Immunology

Tezspire swept its Phase 3 and told us almost nothing. AMGN | AZN

Tezspire met both co primary endpoints at week 24 and every key secondary endpoint through week 52 in CROSSING, a Phase 3 trial of 368 patients with eosinophilic esophagitis, per the Amgen and AstraZeneca announcement. Not one effect size or p value was disclosed; full data go to an unnamed medical meeting, then to regulators. The stakes are real: Amgen counts more than 470,000 US patients, prevalence up five fold since 2009, half inadequately controlled, and Dupixent has had the biologic market entirely to itself. This is also the third positive Phase 3 topline in nine days announced with zero numbers, after INTerpath-001 and HARMONi-GI1. The congress presentation, a date the sponsor controls completely, is now the real data event. Direction is public; magnitude is not.

🏛️ Policy

The MFN push is moving down the market cap ladder. ALKS | ALNY | BMRN | INCY | MDGL | TVTX

Bloomberg reports the White House expects to announce voluntary pricing agreements with midsize biotechs as soon as Monday. Per the report, picked up by Fierce Pharma, participating companies would give state Medicaid programs prices aligned with net prices in eight high income countries, gain exemption from Medicare pilot discount programs under development, and in some cases receive tariff relief. Fierce names the members of the Midsized Biotech Alliance of America as the companies in the frame: Alkermes, Alnylam, BioMarin, Incyte, Madrigal, and Travere. Nothing is announced and no company has confirmed signing. Fourteen large drugmakers have struck versions of these deals since late 2025. The detail worth watching is the tariff relief leg, which converts the Section 232 tariff structure into explicit negotiating currency, exactly the herding function we assigned it when the tariffs took effect July 31.

🤖 AI and Biotech

A webserver gave the market its first real look at an AI designed antibody. GENB

Three ERS congress posters on GB-0895 (golukibart), Generate Biomedicines' AI designed anti TSLP antibody, were inadvertently published on the ERS website August 25, roughly two weeks before their September 7 embargo, and the company disclosed the leak in an SEC filing. Per BioSpace's read, the 40 patient Phase 1 COPD study showed rapid, sustained reductions across four biomarkers after a single dose, a roughly 100 day half life, and at least six months of anti inflammatory activity; the asthma study matched that durability. The irony writes itself: on the day Tezspire validated anti TSLP biology in a third disease, an accidental upload previewed the AI designed challenger with a dosing profile that could stretch toward quarterly. GENB closed at a record $20.38 on Tuesday, per BioSpace, then $16.14 Wednesday and $15.77 Thursday, per market data, as the surprise unwound into scrutiny. The formal presentation stays September 7.

🎗️ Oncology

The Rasonque numbers are now official, and the launch questions start. RVMD

The FDA's own approval notice puts the RASolute 302 data on the public record: median overall survival 13.2 versus 6.7 months, hazard ratio 0.40, progression free survival 7.2 versus 3.6 months, response rate 30 versus 11 percent, all at p<0.0001, in 500 randomized patients, approved roughly 6.5 months early. The commercial reporting arrived the same day: Fierce Pharma puts the list price at $39,800 per 30 day supply before discounts, with expanded access converting to commercial supply over several months, a $0 copay program, and a prescriber base split roughly 40 percent academic and 60 percent community. The analyst spread is wide, Evercore ISI at $1.76 billion for 2027 against Guggenheim near $900 million, and it prices the honest question a City of Hope oncologist put to Fierce: the drug is historic, and this is the company's first launch. RVMD closed at $221.15 Thursday, per market data.
